He neither went into bankruptcy nor sold his property, but he was a victim of an unfortunate bushfire that happened in the area. Although a New Zealand citizen, he has lived in Australia for most of his life. He received international attention for his role as the Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius in the epic historical film “Gladiator” (2000) directed by Ridley Scott.
